Case Story – Museo Comunitario Isla de Maipo – Digital catalog and narrative system

Context

A community museum in Isla de Maipo preserves historical artifacts that represent local identity and collective memory.

However, the information associated with these objects was:

  • fragmented
  • difficult to access
  • lacking narrative structure

Challenge

How can historical objects become meaningful stories for people?

The challenge was not only to organize information, but to:

  • make it understandable
  • make it engaging
  • make it accessible to a wider audience

Approach

The team was made up of me, an art historian, and a photographer, under the supervision of the project manager.
  • organize work to get the launchtime
  • understanding the context of each object
  • identifying its meaning within the community
  • structuring information into clear narratives
  • approached the project from a storytelling perspective

Insight

People don’t connect with objects.

They connect with stories.

Solution

I designed a digital catalog system that integrates:

  • structured technical sheets
  • narrative descriptions
  • visual organization of content
  • accessible storytelling for non-expert audiences

We also did free merchadinsing calendars for the community with a QR code that links to the digital catalog.

Impact

  • Improved accessibility to cultural content
  • Strengthened connection between people and local history
  • Transformed static information into meaningful narratives

Reflection

Whether in science, health, or culture:

understanding always begins with a story
