Case Story – SEC: Sello Verde OK
CONTEXT
In Chile, gas installations must be periodically inspected to ensure safety.
However, the certification process involves multiple actors, technical evaluations, and different possible outcomes, making it difficult for citizens to fully understand what is happening and what each result means.
CHALLENGE
How to explain a regulatory safety certification process in a way that:
- is clear for non-expert users
- communicates risk effectively
- helps people understand what actions to take
APPROACH
I focused on translating the process into a simple mental model:
a system with states and consequences
Then I:
- identified the key stages of the process
- simplified technical language into everyday terms
- clarified the meaning of each possible outcome
- structured the experience as a decision-based flow
INSIGHT
The system behaves like a traffic light for safety:
green → safe
yellow → warning
red → danger
SOLUTION
I translated the process into:
- a clear step-by-step flow
- visual states representing safety levels
- simple explanations of consequences and next actions

IMPACT
- improves understanding of a critical safety system
- empowers citizens to take action
- reduces confusion around technical regulations
